Understanding Simple Machines
Simple machines are fundamental mechanical devices that alter the magnitude or direction of a force. They form the building blocks for all complex machinery.
The Lever
A lever consists of a rigid beam pivoting on a fixed hinge, or fulcrum. By moving the fulcrum closer to a heavy object (like the elephant in our simulation), you can lift it using significantly less force.
The Inclined Plane (Ramp)
A ramp allows you to elevate an object over a longer distance, which reduces the peak force required to move it compared to lifting it straight up.
